[Canon] Pokemon
[Point in time taken from canon] Postgame of Black/White 2,
[Background]
Morty comes from an alternate Earth where instead of animals, creatures known as Pokemon roam the earth. Pokemon came in all shapes and sizes, and each Pokemon wielded different powers.
Long ago in centuries past, a city was founded and came to be known as Ecruteak City. Two beautiful towers stood there, as tribute to Ho-Oh, a legendary phoenix-like Pokemon that served as the guardian of the sun and skies. 150 years prior to the events of the canon point I'm taking Morty from, there was a terrible storm. The western tower was struck by lightning, and burned to the ground. Three Pokemon died in the destruction of the tower, until Ho-Oh rose from its ashes and brought them back to life. The creatures, now the three Legendary Beasts, became known as Suicune (the embodiment of the rain that fell during the storm), Raikou (the lightning that struck the tower) and Entei (the fire that burned it to the ground). They then fled from Ecruteak and went their separate ways.
Ecruteak continued to be known as one of the most sacred and traditional towns in its region. The Western Tower was never rebuilt and became colloquially known as the Burned Tower, while the eastern tower became the Bell Tower.
Morty was born in that very town. His parents were also born and raised in Ecruteak, as were his grandparents, and his great-grandparents probably also lived there going back all the way to the town's very inception. Had he not been taken into the rabbit-hole of panfandom RP he probably would eventually have married some poor, unlucky person, who would probably also live in Ecruteak. They would then have 2.5 children, also born and raised in Ecruteak and I'm really getting off-topic aren't I
Morty, always being a bit of an oddball, endured more than his share of teasing as a child. His only friend in his formative years was an equally-odd boy named Eusine. Eusine was loud, active, and sparkly--he was almost Morty's polar opposite. But oh, the adventures they had together. The both of them would often venture to the charred remains of the Burned Tower and go exploring. Both the boys were also deeply interested in mythology and history, and developed their own obsessions with legendary creatures: Morty with Ho-Oh, and Eusine with Suicune.
Like most young people in his world, Morty eventually went on a journey throughout the land, catching Pokemon to serve as his companions, battling other trainers, and gaining badges and prestige. Soon enough, he found that he was pretty good at it. When he was in his late teens, he ascended to the title of Gym Leader: someone whose job it was to battle other Pokemon trainers and, if they lost, confer to them a badge. Every so often he would take trips to other neighboring regions, and on his adventures sometimes met new Pokemon friends.
It was often said in Ecruteak that one day Ho-Oh would return, appearing only before someone with a pure heart. Having the ability of future sight, Morty began to prophesize about Ho-Oh's return. Unfortunately, he made the mistake of thinking the chosen one was him.
As an adult, life slowed to a beautiful routine. Morty, always a bit of a homebody, continued serving as Ecruteak's gym leader, only leaving the city in short trips and even then usually for strictly business. Eusine had made it his lifelong quest to find and capture the beautiful legendary creature known as Suicune, and traveled across the land, searching far and wide. Every so often he would go back to visit his childhood friend, usually also crashing in Morty's house as he'd long since abandoned the notion of having a permanent dwelling. One day, the two of them ventured to the Burned Tower. As luck would have it, the three Legendary Beasts had gathered there once more.
Then a kid wandered in, scaring them off. Before they left for good, Morty managed to see Entei up close, the creature giving him a gaze he'd never forget.
He returned to his gym, where the kid fought him and won. Actually, he was beaten pretty badly. Upon seeing that this kid could get so close to the legendary beasts and defeat him with such ease, Morty came to a sad, sad realization.
The trainer that Ho-Oh had chosen wasn't him.
It was the kid.
Disappointed, he resolved to find a new purpose for himself in life, and continued to train. This went on for a couple of years. After traveling across the land, searching far and wide (for what, I don't know), he decided to compete in the Pokemon World Tournament in Unova, because seriously, all the other cool kids were doing it.
Sometime before the PWT and after he got his ass kicked, he was transported to Somarium. While he hung around and participated in the evacuation of the city, he didn't have much agency in the rest of the goings-on. True to his introverted nature, he also didn't have very many friends, apart from Russia and Grimsley.
[Personality]
The first thing people will notice from Morty is that he's very, very sentimental and traditional. He's a goody-two-shoes who tries to do right by other people, always respects his elders, is nice to small children and Pokemon, and doesn't drink or smoke or swear. And while sexuality is an issue that was never even touched upon in his canon, he's probably the sort of guy who wouldn't have sex before marriage.
For the most part, he's tolerant of other people's beliefs and practices, but there are a few things that set him off. Disrespecting one's elders, especially parents/grandparents, is something he finds pretty damn abhorrent, and you'll annoy the crap out of him if you swear a lot or conduct yourself too crudely in public. He also doesn't tolerate anyone who's rude or cruel to children, him being fond of the little anklebiters. But perhaps his biggest red button that should never be pushed is defacing graves or doing things to a dead person that that dead person would not approve of. Seriously, you're just asking for it then.
However, unless you're battling him, pissing him off, he's possessed, or you got him talking about legendary Pokemon, he's fairly laid-back and quiet. Being able to see the future has given him a strong belief in the concept of fate, and he believes in just letting things in life come as they are.
Despite the fact that he means well, Morty is maybe not exactly the most social guy around. He only really had one close friend back home, and generally has no problem with being alone or not talking to anyone. He also fumbles around a bit when talking to others, his conversations elegantly punctuated with stammering, derailed topics and uncomfortable silences. He tries to be respectful to others--one of the first things people will notice when talking to him is that he abides very much by the "yes sir/no sir, yes ma'am/no ma'am" rule--but it's just. So very clear that he doesn't get out much. This has improved a bit in recent years since he's traveled and has naturally had to interact with more people, but he's still an introvert and still prefers more low-key social situations.
Fitting of his somewhat conservative attitude, Morty has a deep interest in history and mythology. He is also pinged by traditional art forms, such as the dance theatre that operated in his town. The downside to this is that he's also a bit of a homebody--after his journey was over he was more than happy to return home to Ecruteak, and to this day doesn't usually leave the town on a whim--nope, traveling somewhere else is always a big deal for him.
Morty also has a bad habit of getting a little cocky. During battles, he tends to think there's a way to victory even if he's definitely losing, and there was that whole episode where he thought he was Ho-Oh's chosen one... he's still a bit embarrassed about being proven wrong.
Finally, Morty has an odd and somewhat creepy outlook on the scarier things in life. He believes death is beautiful, has no problem with the fact that he is regularly possessed by spirits, and has a somewhat dark sense of humor (think Emilie Autumn's "Miss Lucy Had Some Leeches"). Make no mistake: Morty likes being alive, and he would shun an actual torturer or murderer just as the next person would. It's just that he doesn't fear or abhor death itself, viewing it as just a continuation of the beautiful cycle of nature. Other people might shy away from morbid things like these, but Morty eats morbidity for breakfast. Hey, he wouldn't be a very good ghost-type trainer if he didn't.
[Abilities]
He's a prophet and can occasionally see into the future. While this is a canon ability, I understand the potential for power-playing here, so I'm only going to tap into this with permission from other players. Even then, any and all visions he has are probably going to be frustratingly vague.
Oh and he also has Pokemon! I'm picking and choosing his team from the various Mons he has in use during Black/White 2 in the Pokemon World Tournament (Blue is for a male; Pink for females):
Gengar: Morty's pride and joy. Has the power to imitate the look of shadows and change his shape while in "shadow" form
Chandelure: Shoots fire at people, shoots balls of dark energy at people, may or may not try (and always hilariously fail, for the sake of avoiding godmodding) to steal souls.
Dusknoir: Also has the power to burn people, as well as sneak up on them and attack them from behind, I assume from being so spooky. Also can set up temporary shields from attacks that last about a minute or two.
Mismagius: Has the power to burn people, look at them funny so they can't run away, sing the songs that make them die within a few minutes, and induce confusion so bad people often accidentally hurt themselves.
Froslass: Can control snow and ice--not enough to change the weather, but enough to use offensive ice moves/magic.
Sableye: Eats diamonds.
[Other important stuff]
When he has to actually make an effort to look presentable he just wears loose-fitting, warm clothes and sensible shoes. And the scarf (headcanon is that a family member knitted that for him, IDK). He has a few favorite colors but otherwise he just thinks trying to follow fashion or spending too much time on personal appearance is silly.
Every other time he lives in his pajamas and likes it. His taste for comfy clothes is a canon character trait and very important.

You are on the verge of death. You know there is no way to survive and there's no coming back. Choose any of the following to answer: What is your last wish? Your last regret? Last thoughts? How do you feel? Who is the last person you think of other than your killer?
I don't think I'd regret anything. This point had to come sometime, didn't it? Um. I guess the last thing I'd hope for was that it doesn't hurt, but we don't exactly get to choose that.
...my parents are going to be upset. So is Eusine, probably.
Murder. What is your opinion?
No. Just...I just can't. Aside from the fact that you're taking it in your own hands to cut someone's life short? It's cruel and stupid, and I can't condone it.
What is more important to you: having friends or living on your own? Why?
Well, as long as one person in the world likes you, you're okay. I like my peace and quiet.
Would you consider yourself a well traveled person? If so, what are some of your favorite places? If not, would you want to travel or is there some place you want to go?
I...guess I am? I've been to other regions, but I didn't really like it much as I did back home. Family's important, you know?
Oh look, there's a double rainbow! [For this prompt, write how your character would react if someone randomly shouted and pointed to the sky saying this line.]
A wha- [Okay, the mere mention of rainbows has him immediately turning the way of the point. Ho-Oh is known for her glorious rainbows, and surely a double rainbow can only be the work of her majesty.
The rest of the allotted time spent answering this interview question is just him staring at the rainbow in religious awe.]
Do you believe you can fly? Do you believe you can touch the sky?
[Awww, you made him chuckle a bit.] No, I don't think so. You uh...you might want to ask Falkner about that, I'd think.
Hey, did you hear about that giant sale going on? Interested? What would you want to get?
Whitney, is that you? ...There isn't really anything I need, but I guess there's no harm in taking a look. [If anything, some of his older shirts have holes in them...]
What disgusts you the most?
People who can't respect their elders, people who are cruel...the usual, I guess. Never figured out why some people just seem to go out of their way to cause trouble. ...Oh, and RageCandyBars.
[Third Person]
Describe what your character is doing/thinking/wishing/etc. in the following scenario: It's cold and raining. Their umbrella has blown over and is no longer usable. There are three buildings they could run to: 1) the closest is a dark, decrepit old shack that looks like it could fall over any minute, 2) a little ways down the street is an old, abandoned house, but is that blood dripping from the window...?, 3) three blocks up there is a nice hotel all lit up and looks pretty safe.
That hadn't been too good. The umbrella he was using had been a gift from Whitney, during the one time she'd dragged him to that giant sale going on in Goldenrod. He'd told her she shouldn't trouble herself, told her he had a perfectly good umbrella back home, but no. Apparently the fact that this one was "like, so totally adorable" and fit him perfectly, according to Whitney's expertise, trumped all of that. Ah, well--one could never have too many umbrellas. Especially in weather like this.
Whitney was going to be upset. But for now, what mattered was getting to shelter, and Morty was pretty sure the shack next to him did not count as "shelter". He walked up and down the street some more, until he reached a house he was fairly sure he hadn't seen before and oh. Oh.
Was that blood in the window?
It had to be. Textbook sign of either horrible murder or a haunting, but oozing out of the window like this, and in such vast quantities...it was beautiful. Morbidly, horribly beautiful. Morty's hand met the doorknob for a second, while his eyes peered in to see if anyone was inside. The house was vacant. What a shame; after all, it was beyond rude to leave ghosts alone like this. With a head full of curiosity and a body wrapped in damp, freezing clothes, he opened the door and braced himself. The air was musty and heavy with iron from the blood running up the walls. But somehow, as Morty sat on the floor and curled up to stave off the cold, it didn't seem all that bad. The house was nice and sturdy, beautiful view, the residents had a charming taste in decor. Which was all well and good; he was going to be here for hours.
That hotel was always a bit too upper-crust for his tastes anyway.
[Why do you want to play this character in Somarium?] Because I love the Johto characters in Pokemon, mainly! Also, I'd heard good things about Somarium from people in my Plurklist, and after reading up on the game's premise thought that Morty would be a good match.
[Which rule was your favorite and why?] No pregnancies! Partially because of all the complications that can come out of playing them out and partially because outside of memes I see them as kind of a tired plot device but eh, that's just me. Also, the additional smut rules about no characters or muns under 15. Because as a member of the Homestuck fandom, it just uh. I've seen people not regard that rule and it is just do not want.
[Where did you hear about Somarium?] Some people on my plurklist played here.
[Do you need a promo code?] Heehee, nope!
[Any questions?] Are trainers allowed to access the PC storage system from Somarium, which would enable Morty to switch out his Pokemon teams?
